Jonathan Abel was born in Miami, Florida and attended the University of Florida, where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in 1980. Jonathan received his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida School of Law in 1983.

Since his admission to the Florida Bar in 1983, Jonathan has engaged in all aspects of insurance defense litigation, with a particular emphasis on medical malpractice, including the defense of acute care and psychiatric hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, physicians, psychologists, emergency department groups, dentists, and chiropractors.

Jonathan is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida. In addition, Jonathan is a member of the Dade County Bar Association, the Broward County Bar Association, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the South Florida Claims Association, the Florida Society for Health Care Risk Management, the American Society for Health Care Risk Management and the International Association of Defense Counsel. Since 2004, Jonathan has been recognized annually as a Top Lawyer by the South Florida Legal Guide.

Jonathan lives in Hollywood with his wife, Frankie, and has two sons, Kevin and Stephen.

David Michael Abosch was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware in 2001, and his juris doctor from Nova Southeastern University School of Law in 2006, where he was a member of the ILSA Journal International and Comparative Law. David practices in the firm's Property Department, which primarily handles first-party property damage claims and coverage matters. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2006, and is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts as well as the United States District Court in and for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.

Alvarez, Manuel F.

Manuel F. Alvarez was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Manny received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida in 1990 and his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in 1996. Manny practices in all areas of workers' compensation. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1996 and is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Court of Appeal for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. In addition, Manny is a member of the Escambia/Santa Rosa Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association. Manny is a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army Reserve and also served as a State Prosecutor in Miami for approximately two and one-half years.

Manny also served one deployment in Iraq with the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer. During his entire deployment, Manny was embedded in an Iraqi Army Infantry Battalion as their U.S. Army Operations and Maneuver Advisor. As part of his current military assignments, Manny traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to lecture military forces from multiple South American nations in areas of Human Rights and Law of War. Manny continues his workers' compensation defense work with the firm.

Karen earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 2003 and her Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University in 2009. She has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2009 and is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida. While in law school, Karen became a board member and competitor with Moot Court Society upon winning her law school’s Feinrider Moot Court Upper Class Competition. She was also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, International Citator and Vis International Arbitration Competition. Brett R. Bloch was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He earned his undergraduate degree from New York University, cum laude, in 1984 and his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1987, where he was a Lead Notes and Comments Editor of the Syracuse Journal of International Law and Commerce.

Brett’s practice is concentrated on insurance coverage, bad faith, professional liability litigation, construction and mold litigation. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2001 and is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts and the United States District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida. In addition, he is admitted to the New York and New Jersey bars.

In the past, Brett spent more than twelve years in the insurance industry as an underwriter, broker and claims analyst, specializing in complex professional liability and technology risks. He was also licensed as both an insurance broker and claims adjuster. In addition, he has earned the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter designation awarded by the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

Ronald L. Buschbom was born in Miami, Florida, and earned his undergraduate degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1966; a Masters in Business Administration Finance from the University of Miami in 1970, and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1977.

Ronald practices in the area of general liability, auto liability, premises liability, products liability, negligent security, professional liability, arson and fraud, patent, copyright and trademark litigation, civil rights litigation and employment discrimination litigation. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1977 and is admitted to practice in Florida State Courts, United States Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Southern and Middle District of Florida, and United States Tax Court. Louis A. Caputo was born in New York City, New York and relocated to Florida in 1977. He attended the University of Florida and earned his undergraduate degree with honors in 1984. He went on to attend law school at the University of Florida College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1987.

Lou worked as an Assistant State Attorney for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit, Broward County, from 1988 to 1992, prosecuting felony crimes.

Lou has been a member of the firm since 1992 and practices in all areas of workers' compensation defense. In addition to being a member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Florida Bar, he is also a member of the Broward County Bar Association and has litigated cases in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties.

Lou lives in Fort Lauderdale Beach where he enjoys music, sports, traveling and photography.

Stuart Cohen was born in Smithtown, New York, and has lived in South Florida since 1981. Stuart attended the University of Miami where he earned a Bachelors of Business Administration with a major in finance in 1990. He then attended the University of Miami School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1993. While attending law school, Stuart was a member of the State and National Trial Teams, and won the Book Award in Litigation Skills.

Stuart is a trial lawyer who practices in all areas of tort and insurance law, including professional and medical negligence, auto and premises liability, product liability, insurance coverage and bad faith. The focus of his practice has been medical negligence. He also handles the firm's large recovery/subrogation matters throughout the state.

Since his admission to the Florida Bar in 1993, Stuart has litigated and tried cases throughout Florida. He is admitted to practice before all Florida courts, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Stuart has been awarded an AV® rating with Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. The Law Directory establishes this rating by anonymously querying members of the Bar and Judiciary. Tom Conroy graduated from the University of Miami with a B.B.A. in 1971. Tom moved upstate to attend Florida State University, receiving his Juris Doctor from that institution in 1974.

Since his admission to the Florida Bar in 1974, he has specialized in the defense of workers' compensation claims. Initially employed as house counsel of a major insurance company, Tom went on to become an assistant city attorney for the City of Miami. In this position, he began to acquire an expertise concerning the problems unique to municipalities and self-insureds.

Tom Conroy and Bruce Simberg founded the firm Conroy & Simberg, P.A. in 1979 and Tom continued to specialize in workers' compensation defense. Tom has been a board certified workers' compensation attorney since certification was first offered in 1988. From 2004 through 2007, the South Florida Legal Guide recognized Tom as one of South Florida's Leading Attorneys and he has recently been named a "Florida Super Lawyer" in that yearly publication.

In addition, Tom is a member of the American Bar Association, the Dade County Bar Association, the Broward County Bar Association and the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and is on the Workers' Compensation Executive Council where he served as its chair from August 2006 to August 2007. He has served as a trustee and as president of the Friends of 440.

Tom is now retired and lives with his wife, Michelle, in Henderson, Nevada.

Conte, Nicole B.

Nicole B. Conte was born in Memphis, Tennessee and was raised in Melbourne, Florida. She earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College in 1999 and her Juris Doctor from Florida State University in 2002 where she was an editor on two Journals. Nicole practices in all areas of workers' compensation, the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, and the Jones Act. Christopher T. Corkran was born in Alliance, Ohio. Chris is a fourth generation attorney who received his undergraduate degree in economics from Ohio State University in 1995. He then moved to South Florida where he pursued his Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law in 1999.

While in law school, Chris was selected to be a member of the prestigious Peter T. Fay American Inn of Court. He was also chosen to be an Executive Editor for the Opinio Juris Legal Review of the University and selected to be an Articles Editor for the St. Thomas Law Review. Also during law school, Chris began his legal career by clerking for the Conroy Simberg law firm, where Chris was ultimately hired as a full time associate and went on to become a Partner of this firm. Chris is fluent in Spanish and he practices in all areas of general liability with an emphasis on Negligent Security, Premises Liability, Motor Vehicle Negligence (bodily injury and property damage), Uninsured Motorist litigation and all other aspects of Personal Injury and Insurer Bad Faith litigation. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1999 and is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts.

Cortese, Dawn

Dawn Cortese was born in New York and lived on Long Island before relocating to Boca Raton, Florida with her family in 1978. Dawn graduated from Boca Raton Community High School in 1982, earned her undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1991 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Miami in 1994. Dawn dedicated the first six years of her legal career to public service, trying more than 30 criminal jury and 100 bench trials as a prosecutor in the Dade State Attorney's Office. In 2000, Dawn switched her concentration to the private sector, honing her civil litigation skills as a trial attorney for two of the nation's three largest automobile insurance companies. She acquired an extensive understanding of automobile liability, personal injury protection and uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance while defending these cases. Dawn is admitted to practice in all Florida Courts, practices in all areas of general liability, and has significant experience litigating premises liability, negligent security, errors and omissions, professional liability, construction defect, special investigation and fraud matters.

Tom Criss was born in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Tallahassee, Florida to attend Florida State University in 1976. Tom graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Finance in 1978. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1981 from Florida State University College of Law.

Tom joined the firm in 1986. In 1992, he became a partner in the firm. Over his 25 year career, Tom has been instrumental in the growth and development of workers’ compensation law throughout the State of Florida. Tom opened the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Division in Orlando in 1996, which he managed until 2002. In 2002, Tom opened the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Division in Tallahassee, which he continues to manage. Tom has vast experience representing both employers and insurance companies in the field of Workers’ Compensation law. He has tried cases in every Workers’ Compensation District in the State of Florida. He has also handled numerous appellate matters to conclusion.

Tom has lectured at the Florida Workers’ Compensation Convention, at firm seminars, at Claims Professional’s Board Certification seminars, as well as numerous forums throughout the Southeast United States. He has extensive experience in handling the most complex Workers’ Compensation matters including cases involving catastrophic injuries such as quadriplegia, paraplegia and death. Tom also represents employers in cases involving wage and hour disputes, as well as other Employment Law matters. Tom is not only licensed and admitted to practice law in all Florida state courts, but also he is admitted to practice in Federal Court in the Northern District of Florida.

Tom is an active member of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Florida Bar. He was Board Certified in Workers’ Compensation law from 1992 to 2002.

He is a member of the Florida Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the Defense Research Institute, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, and is AV® rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Jim is a member of the Board of Directors of the Health Foundation of South Florida, a $190 million dollar health organization that grants over $10 million dollars per year to health related causes in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. He is co-author of a chapter in Clinical Anesthesia Practice, W.E. Saunders Company, entitled "Medicolegal Issues and Concerns" which is currently in its 2d Edition. In addition he is a contributor to Current Reviews in Clinical Anesthesia, a bi-weekly medical publication.

Millard L. Fretland has been involved in a civil trial and appellate practice in both state and federal courts. Prior to law school, Dale was employed as a teacher, speech pathologist and audiologist at Hope Center for the Mentally Disabled until 1986 when she returned to the University of Miami to obtain her law degree.

In law school, Dale was an editor of the Entertainment and Sports Law Review and won First Place in the 1989 State Moot Court Competition. Dale is a member of the Order of the Coif, a national organization recognizing the top 10 percent of all law students. Kelly Bennison Schaet was born in Hollywood, Florida. Kelly earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1987 and her Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University in 1993. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1993. Kelly practices in all areas of workers’’ compensation. Kelly has distinct expertise in the defense of “presumptive statutes” such as heart and lung claims and those under the First Responder’s Bill.

Prior to joining the firm, Kelly practiced in the areas of criminal law, personal injury and personal injury protection. She is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Alison J. Schefer was born in Bronxville, New York and moved to Florida in 1978. Alison earned her undergraduate degree from Stetson University in 1984 with a major in finance. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida School of Law in December, 1986. Thereafter, Alison moved to the State of New Jersey where she was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1987. While in New Jersey, Alison practiced with two general practice firms and gained extensive litigation experience in both civil and criminal courts. She was also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Alison moved back to Florida and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1990. Since her admission, Alison has specialized exclusively in the defense of workers' compensation cases and has litigated cases in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Broward Counties. In addition to being a member of the Florida and New Jersey Bars, Alison is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Friends of 440. As an undergraduate, Bruce Simberg attended Emory University and was awarded a B.B.A. in 1970. Accepted by the University of Miami Law School, Bruce earned his Juris Doctor in 1975.

As an attorney, Bruce has concentrated on all types of litigation, with an emphasis on products liability, construction disputes and personal injuries, professional liability, and negligent security.

Bruce Simberg joined Tom Conroy in founding Conroy & Simberg, P.A. in 1979. Today at Conroy, Simberg, Ganon, Krevans, Abel, Lurvey, Morrow & Schefer, P.A., Bruce directs the liability department, utilizing his expertise in all areas of insurance defense.

Bruce is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice as a member of the Trial Bar before the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, as well as the United States Supreme Court. Daniel J. Simpson was born in Rivervale, New Jersey and moved to Florida in 1978. Danny, the youngest of six children, grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and is a graduate of Cardinal Newman High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University in 1996, with a major in general business. He received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law in December, 1999. While in Law School, Danny clerked for a Federal Magistrate of the Middle District of Florida and interned with the in-house counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Following graduation, he was admitted to the Florida Bar in April of 2000.

Upon admittance, Danny immediately went to work for the firm in our West Palm Beach office where he has specialized in the defense of workers' compensation claims and has litigated cases throughout the State in Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Hendry, Duval and Lee Counties. In addition to being a member of the Florida Bar, he is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Northern Palm Beach County Republican Party and the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Friends of 440, where he served as the chairman of the annual 440 Golf Tournament from 2004-2006. Christopher A. Tice was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Christopher earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the University of Florida in 1993 with a major in Telecommunications with a concentration in business management. He earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1997. While in law school, he received several distinguished honors and awards and became a Dean's Fellow. Lisa Torron-Bautista was born in Miami, Florida. Michael K. Wilensky was born in Yonkers, New York and has lived in South Florida since age 5. For eight years, beginning in 1977, Eddie was Adjunct Professor of Law at Nova Law School in Ft.
